경북대학교는 대구시가 추진하는 ‘2025년 지역혁신중심 대학지원체계(rise) 사업’에서 신청한 16개 전 과제가 모두 선정돼, 향후 5년간 총 1,630억 원을 지원 받게 된다. 이는 대구 지역 최대 규모 사업비다.

rise 사업은 교육부가 대학 재정지원 권한을 지자체에 이관하고, 지자체는 지역 특성과 발전 전략에 맞춰 대학 혁신을 지원해 지역과 대학의 동반 성장을 도모하는 사업이다.

대구시는 이번 rise 사업과 관련해 4개 프로젝트, 총 16개 단위과제에 대한 공모를 진행했고, 경북대는 신청한 16개 단위과제(주관 15, 참여 1)가 모두 선정됐다. 이에 따라 경북대는 대구시의 1차년도 사업비 765억 원 중 326억 원을 확보했으며, 5년 간 사업비 규모는 총 1,630억 원에 달한다.

경북대는 이번 rise 사업의 비전을 ‘지역혁신 생태계의 허브로서 지역과 대학의 동반성장’으로 정하고, ▷대구형 혁신 교육 생태계 구축 ▷d5 미래산업 선도인재 양성 ▷취·창업 중심 산학협력 플랫폼 구축 ▷청년 인재 정착과 지역사회 기반 구축 등 4개 핵심 프로젝트를 중심으로 사업을 추진할 계획이다.
특히, 경북대는 ‘대구형 r&d 전주기 지원 체계 구축’ 단위과제에 단독으로 선정돼 연 57억원을 확보하고, 대구시 핵심 과제인 ‘5대 미래산업(미래모빌리티, 로봇, 디지털 헬스케어, 반도체, abb) 연계 핵심 인재 양성 분야’에서도 연 78억 원의 사업비를 확보해 지역 맞춤형 r&d 지원체계 구축과 d5 미래산업의 경쟁력 강화를 위한 인력양성에 적극 투자할 예정이다.

허영우 경북대 총장은 “이번 rise 사업 선정을 통해 우리 경북대학교가 지역 발전에 크게 기여할 수 있게 되었다.”며, “경북대는 d5 인력양성, r&d, 산학협력 선도 연구 등 rise 사업 전 분야에 강점을 가진 대학이며, 이러한 강점을 적극 활용하여 지역 산업 발전과 경제 활성화에 이바지하는 중추적 역할을 수행하겠다.”라고 밝혔다.

All 16 KNU RISE Project Proposals Selected, Securing 163 billion KRW Over 5 years

Kyungpook National University (KNU) had all 16 of its submitted proposals selected for the '2025 Regional Innovation System and Education (RISE) Project' promoted by Daegu Metropolitan City. As a result, it will receive a total of 163 billion KRW in funding over the next 5 years. This marks the largest project budget for the Daegu region to date.

The RISE Project is an initiative where the Ministry of Education transfers authority for university financial support to local governments. These local governments then support university innovation in alignment with their region's specific characteristics and development strategies, aiming to promote the mutual growth of both the region and its universities.

As for the 2025 RISE Project, Daegu Metropolitan City conducted a public call for proposals for 4 projects, totaling 16 sub-projects. KNU had all 16 of its submitted sub-projects (15 as the lead institution, and 1 as a participating institution) selected. As a result, KNU has secured 32.6 billion KRW out of Daegu City's first-year project budget of 76.5 billion KRW, with the total project budget over five years amounting to 163 billion KRW.

KNU has established a vision for its current RISE project proposals as "Co-growth of the region and the university as a hub of the regional innovation ecosystem." The university plans to carry out its plans while focusing on four core project objectives: ▷ Establishing a Daegu-style innovative education ecosystem; ▷ Fostering talent to lead the so-called D5 Future Industries, i.e., future mobility, robotics, digital healthcare, semiconductors, and ABB (AI, big data, and blockchain); ▷ Building an industry-academia cooperative platform centered on employment and entrepreneurship; and ▷ Attracting young talent and building a foundation for the local community.

In particular, KNU was the sole institution selected for the sub-project "Establishing a Daegu-Style R&D Lifecycle Support System," securing 5.7 billion KRW annually. Furthermore, in the "Fostering talent to lead the D5 Future Industries,” which is a key initiative for Daegu Metropolitan City, KNU secured an annual project budget of 7.8 billion KRW. The university plans to actively invest in establishing a region-specific R&D support system as well as professional training opportunities to strengthen the competitiveness of these D5 Future Industries.

KNU President Huh Young-woo remarked, "Through its selection for the current RISE Project, Kyungpook National University has been enabled to greatly contribute to regional development." He added, "KNU is a university with strengths in all areas of the RISE Project, including D5 talent development, R&D, and leading industry-academia collaborative research. We will actively leverage these strengths to play a pivotal role in contributing to the development of regional industries and the revitalization of the economy."
